About the Royal Anglian Regiment Cap Badge
The Royal Anglian cap badge combines a Gibraltar Castle and Key with a ROYAL ANGLIAN scroll, mounted on a silver eight-pointed star. The basic design predates the regiment itself and developed from the common badge adopted by the East Anglian Brigade in 1958.
The star drew on the badge traditions of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment and the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. The Castle and Key came through the Suffolk, Essex and Northamptonshire lines and ultimately reflects antecedent service during the Great Siege of Gibraltar, 1779–1783.
Other forebear traditions survived elsewhere in Royal Anglian dress: Britannia preserved the Royal Norfolk connection, while the Royal Tiger became a visible inheritance from The Royal Leicestershire Regiment.
